VAT ISSUES

The Channel Islands Jersey & Guernsey have special arrangements with HMRC of the UK whereby VAT on shipments valued at £18 and over can be pre-paid or collected in the Channel Islands themselves by Jersey. We have signed an MOU with HMRC which is effectively policed by Jersey Customs via the Jersey postal authorities.

Under the MOU our company must prepare a monthly list of VAT-able shipments and pay the VAT over to the local Customs’ authorities within a stipulated date in the following month. By signing the MOU we benefit in the following manner:

• Our shipments do not require to go via an office of exchange (such as a postal office with Customs checks) in the UK resulting in quicker delivery times
• For orders £18 and over, the customer is not presented with an unexpected VAT bill when the goods are delivered.

If the item value is under £18 we ship the items without VAT as this complies with the VAT allowance set up the the UK and Jersey governments. If your delivery address is outside of Jersey, you may be subject to import duties and taxes, this may occur once a shipment reaches your country. Additional charges for customs clearance and VAT outside of the U.K. must be borne by you. You should note that customs policies vary widely from country to country; www.channelgoods.com advises each customer to contact their local customs office for further information.
